The Neiman Marcus Group Appoints Chief Legal Officer
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 2001--The Neiman Marcus Group, Inc. (NYSE: NMG.A, NMG.B) today announced that Nelson A. (Tony) Bangs has been appointed senior vice president, general counsel and secretary.
Mr. Bangs reports directly to president and chief operating officer Burton M. Tansky, who will become chief executive officer of The Neiman Marcus Group effective May 15.
Mr. Bangs, 48, joins the company after an extensive career with Dallas-based Dr Pepper Company, which subsequently became Dr Pepper/Seven-Up Companies, Inc. During his career with the soft drink company, he held several key positions. Most recently he was senior vice president and general counsel to Dr Pepper/Seven Up, Inc. of Dallas. In 1995, as vice president, general counsel and secretary of Dr Pepper/Seven Up Companies, Inc., he negotiated the merger agreement with Cadbury Schweppes plc. He graduated from Southern Methodist University Law School, and received his undergraduate degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Dallas Bar Association, the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, and the United States Trademark Association.
Mr. Bangs succeeds Eric P. Geller, who has resigned his position in anticipation of the company's termination of the inter-company management service agreement with Harcourt General, Inc., a global publishing company, on May 14. Mr. Geller remains senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Harcourt General, Inc.
